Chandigarh Brasilia reVision

fotografias Georg Salner

Why does a visual artist make a photographic excursion to Le Corbusier (and Pierre Jeanneret) in Chandigarh and to Oscar Niemeyer in Brasília (Niterói and Rio de Janeiro)? (...) Le Corbusier and Niemeyer are (...) the only ones among the grand masters of modernism who were allowed to play on entire capitals with their ideas and fill them with the most important buildings. They were all ideal types of designers, innovative, influential and of enormous binding force for a world civilisation to be shaped, whose partly utopian approaches, however, did not succeed in every respect. They have remained individual figures with many outstanding comrades-in-arms and successors. (...)

The intention was - against the background of the fascinating old black-and-white photographs from the early days of the cities - in an identification with the same means (analogue), to create a new, extensive and detailed photographic construct - with all its historical and contemporary connotations. (...) So once again an extremely artificial IMAGE (...) was created.
